Wow... Wednesday Already?
Thank God! I can't wait for the long weekend. I'm not doing much this upcoming weekend, just relaxing. I'll probably do some homework, go for a bike ride (20 miles), sleep, do a little Greek Festin', you know, the usual.
One thing I wanted to write about and draw attention is how much I love the first day of school. For one, I took the M train out to state and it was awesomely packed as it usually is but this time it was packed with the extra special addition of college freshmen that had come downtown to do some shopping. They're clearly the out-of-towners because they stupidly go downtown for shopping and try to come back during commute hours. They're the same freshmen you see wandering around state in shorts, flip-flops and SFSU sweatshirts because they didn't realize that the picture of State looking sunny and pretty was taken on the one day that it's sunny in the Sunset.
Another thing I love about the first day of school is the hodgepodge of students. State has such a great mix of students because it's a State school and you get a lot of different type of people there. There's always the surly grad students who've just come from a long day of working and look tired and worn. Then there's the non-surly grad students who often look like Shit Ass Ho Motherfuckers (i.e. Stay At Home Moms). A lot of them wear clothes with animals embroidered on them. They're cute.
Then there's the freshmen who are often annoying because they're lost and don't know what to do. There are a bunch who are from the city and just go about their business (they're my favorite becase they get it). Then there are the international kids who don't really speak english. They huddle together in groups and laugh and smoke ciggarettes despite state's attempts to become a smoke free campus. There are the upperclassmen saying hello to one another after a summer, catching up on who's done what and who has what classes. All in all, a lot of different types of people from a lot of different backgrounds that make for a fun experience.
As for me, well, I'm a surly grad-student. obviously.
